Before you begin
At this point, your shade should already be installed and working with the remote.
If you need help with physical installation and getting it working with the remote, see the article below:
You’ll also want your phone nearby and your Matter setup code, which can be found on your shade or packaging.
And if you want a deep-dive in to Matter and how it works, see the article below:
Step 1: Download the Mado app
Download the Mado Home app from the Apple App Store and open it.
Note: The android version will be available in late Spring, 2026.
Step 2: Update your shade
Before your shade can connect to a smart home system, it needs a quick firmware update.
In the Mado Home app, open the menu and tap Update Shade Firmware. The app will begin scanning for your shade.
When you see the scanning screen, press and hold the square button on your shade until the light starts blinking blue. This puts the shade into Bluetooth mode so the app can find it.
Once the light is blinking, the app will connect and begin the update. Stay nearby and keep the app open until it finishes.
Step 3: Connect your shade
After the update, you’re ready to connect your shade to your smart home.
This step is what turns your shade from something you control with a remote into something that can respond as part of your home. Once connected, your shade can show up in your smart home app, respond to voice commands, and run as part of scenes and automations alongside your lights, thermostat, and other devices.
To make that possible, your shade needs a way to communicate with your home network. It does this through a smart home hub that supports Matter and Thread. The hub acts as the bridge between your shade and the rest of your system, allowing everything to stay connected reliably, even when your phone isn’t nearby.
Before moving forward, make sure you have a compatible smart home hub set up and that it supports Thread. If you’re not sure, you can check supported models here:
If you use Apple Home
You can complete the setup directly in the Mado app.
Tap Add a Shade and follow the steps to add your shade to Apple Home. Once it’s added, you can control it using the Mado app, the Apple Home app, Siri, and automations.
For detailed instructions, see the article below:
If you use Google Home or Alexa
You’ll start by adding your shade in that app first.
The first step will be to open Google Home or Alexa and add a new device using Matter. When prompted, enter or scan your setup code.
See these articles for detailed instructions for each platform:
If something doesn’t work
If the Mado Home app can’t find your shade during the update, make sure the light is blinking blue and that you’re close to the shade. Then try again.
If your preferred Smart Home app can’t find your shade when you try to add it to its network, check here for help:
