Android users: read this before setting up your shade

If you are using an Android phone, you can install and use your C-Series motorized shade with the included physical remote today. Smart home setup will be available once the Mado Home app for Android is released in late spring.

What’s going on

If you are using an Android phone, your shade will not connect to Alexa, Google Home, or other smart home platforms YET.

This is not a limitation of the hardware. The shade(s) you received in your order is physically compatible with the smart home systems listed above. However, at present we are not shipping an Android version of the Mado Home app.

The Mado Home app for Android is still in development. That app is required to update your shade’s firmware to a fully Matter-certified version. Until that update happens, smart home platforms will not recognize the shade as ready to pair.

Nothing is wrong with your shade. It is simply waiting for that update that can only be delivered from the Mado Home app.

What you can do today

You can install and use your shade right away.

  • install the shade using the TrueFit Bar or mounting brackets

  • control it with the included remote

  • set and adjust the bottom limit

For many homes, this is already enough.

What will be available soon

When the Mado Home app for Android app public beta is released in late spring, it will be available through the Google Play Store.

At that point, you will be able to:

  • update your shade to the latest firmware

  • connect it to Alexa, Google Home, or other Matter-compatible systems

  • control it from your phone

  • create schedules and automations

  • set up and enable Eco Mode to automatically raise / lower your shades for heating / cooling energy savings

No changes to your hardware will be required. Your shade is already built for this.

What to expect in the meantime

Your shade does not depend on the app for basic operation.

You can continue using it with the physical remote pending the availability of the Mado Home app for Android . When the app is released, you can complete setup at that time without reinstalling or starting over.

The system is designed to meet you where you are, and then extend when you are ready.

If you have temporary access to an iPhone or iPad and can’t wait for the Mado Home app (for Android)

If you have access to an iPhone or iPad (even temporarily) you can move ahead today and configure the shade for use with the Mado Home app or other Matter-enabled Smart Home systems like Google and Amazon Alexa.

Download the Mado Home app from the Apple App Store, connect to your shade, and update its firmware. This brings the shade to a fully Matter-certified version.

Once updated, the rest of the process shifts back into the systems you already use. You can open Alexa or Google Home, follow their standard “add device” flow, and bring the shade into your smart home environment.

After this, your shade lives where you expect it to in your Smart Home environment. You will have full access to the automation features, voice commands etc. that your Smart Home system may offer. Once the Mado Home (Android edition) becomes available, you can simply download it and “add” the shade to set up and enable advanced features like Eco Mode.
