This guide breaks the process down step by step so you can get a clean, secure installation.
How to install the TrueFit Bar - Please Watch This First!
Next watch the full installation video below for a quick overview of the physical installation before getting started.
Before you begin
Before you begin, take a few minutes to get your space and materials ready. If you prefer to follow along with a printed version, you can download the Quick Start Guide (PDF) to use alongside these steps.
Prepare the window
Remove any existing window coverings, brackets, or hardware
Make sure the window frame surface is clean and dry
Confirm your window is compatible
The window frame depth must be at least 15/16”
If your window does not meet this requirement, follow the Outside Mount Installation Guide instead
You will still use this guide for all other steps, including trimming and setting up the shade.
Gather what you need
Your shade, with the TrueFit Bar removed from the clips
Your installation kit, including the PerfectTrim™ Tool, mounting guides, and wrench
Installing your shade is a simple, step-by-step process. You will position and secure the TrueFit Bar inside your window, trim the shade for a precise fit, attach the shade to the bar, and then pair the remote and set your preferred stopping position. Take your time through each step to ensure a clean, secure installation.
Step 1: Install the TrueFit Bar and find your fit number
A. Position and extend the TrueFit Bar
Extend and twist the bar until both ends touch the inside edges of the frame.
Extend the bar until both ends touch the inside edges of the frame.
Read the number shown at the seam between the two sections. This is your fit number.
B. Adjust and test the fit
Use the mounting guides on each end of the bar to help position it correctly.
Adjust the bar by extending or retracting it until it sits snugly in the frame.
Gently press on the bar to test the fit. It should feel secure, but still be slightly adjustable.
Repeat this process until the bar is properly positioned.
C. Secure the TrueFit Bar
Once the bar is in the correct position, use the included wrench to tighten the right end cap.
Continue tightening until the bar is secure and only moves slightly when tapped.
Step 2: Trim the shade
A. Make a test cut (optional)
If you are using the PerfectTrim™ Tool for the first time, make a small test cut to get comfortable with how it works. Use your body weight for an easy cut.
B. Find your trim amount
Locate the trim marks on the shade.
Use the fit number from Step 1 to determine how much to trim from each side.
C. Trim the shade
Trim both ends of the shade evenly using the PerfectTrim™ Tool.
Make sure both sides are trimmed equally before installing.
Step 3: Install the shade
A. Remove the mounting guides, then Clip on the shade
Gently push the shade onto the TrueFit Bar until fully secure.
B. Slide the rails out
Slide the rails out on both sides of your shade.
Step 4: Pair the remote
A. Pair the remote
Remove the remote control’s magnetic back plate and pull tab. The remote will not activate until the pull tab has been removed.
Press and hold the Program button (PROG) on the shade motor until the green light blinks twice then remains solid (about 4 seconds).
Next, press and hold the Up + Down buttons (at the same time) on the remote until the shade jogs.
B: Set the bottom limit
Press and hold the Down button until the shade reaches your desired stopping point.
Use the Up and Down buttons to adjust as needed and the shade is fully closed, covering your window completely. You can use the Center Button to stop the motor.
Press and hold the Center + Down buttons (at the same time) to set the bottom limit.
The shade will automatically move up to the topmost position (fully open) and record that as the upper limit.
The shade will jog when the limit is set.
Now test your shade
The Mado remote works much like a garage door opener. Press the Center button once to lower the shade, press it again to stop, and press it once more to raise it back up. The Up and Down buttons are available if you want to move the shade in a specific direction explicitly.
Press the Up button once on the remote to test the shade opening up.
Once fully open, press the Down button on the remote to make sure that it stops once your window is fully covered.
What to expect next
Your shade is now installed and ready to use. You can start using it right away with the included remote—raising and lowering it, setting it where you like, and settling into how it fits into your day.
The solar strip will help maintain the internal battery during normal daylight, so in most homes you won’t need to think about charging it. It’s designed to quietly take care of itself once it’s in place.
If you’d like to go further, you can connect your shade to the Mado Home app. From there, you can control it from your phone, set schedules, and connect it with Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa. That step is optional—the shade works on its own—but it’s there if you want to expand how it fits into your home.
