How to setup Eco-Mode with Mado Shades using the Mado Home App

Using the Mado Home app, Mado Shades can be integrated into a smart home system.

Once integrated, the shades can be configured to automatically adjust (raise or lower) based on the estimated solar intensity and weather conditions specific to the window's location and orientation.

When enabled, Eco-Mode automatically raises and lowers your shade to save your energy costs (heating / cooling). It takes into account forecast weather conditions and the orientation of the sun relative to your windows. Setup requires location of your home and orientation of your windows.

The app can be used to:

  • enable or adjust automation features such as Eco Mode

  • update device configuration, such as location (of Home) and orientation of window / shade

The location of your home is set up during initial onboarding of the Mado Home app.

Shade orientation can be set up right after adding shades to your network, or through Shade settings. This involves orienting your phone to the window / shade as indicated in the on-screen guidance and confirming orientation. An optimized “eco-mode” schedule is immediately created for that shade.

This article shows you the additional short steps to setup and use eco-mode.

Body:

Eco-mode is available on Mado C-Series shades. It can be enabled via the Mado Home app for shades that are set up on a Thread-enabled Smart Home network using Matter.

Before you begin

Make sure:

  • your shade is installed and powered on

  • your iPhone or iPad is connected to your home Wi-Fi network with the Mado Home app installed. This should be the same WiFi network that your Thread-enabled smart home assistant is on.

  • Your Mado shades are successfully installed on the network and confirmed by Opening / Closing your shades using your Mado Home app.

Step 1: Set your Home location in Mado Home app

  1. Open the Mado Home app on your iPhone or iPad.

  2. Click on the Gear sign at the top right corner of the Home screen to access Settings

  3. Under the Location label, tap on the “location” icon (and provide Locations permissions for the app when prompted). Alternatively, you can type in your city and state information in the location field.

Step 2: Setup Window Shade orientation

Tap on the name of the Shade that you have already added to Mado Home.

On the screen showing a virtual remote control for the Shade, tap on the Gear on the top right (Shade Settings)

Tap on the field next to the Orientation label. In the screen below, you would tap on the “Need Setup” prompt.

Follow on-screen instructions to orient the phone in the direction of the window. Tap on “Confirm Orientation”

Step 3: Enable Eco-Mode for the room

Enabling Eco-Mode for the room automatically enables Eco-Mode for each shade in that room. Eco-Mode can be enabled using the slider next to the room name in your home configuration tray.

In the example below, Eco-mode is enabled on all shades in the “Office”.
