How to install your C-Series shade

Follow these steps to install your C-Series shade inside your window frame, trim it for a precise fit, secure it, and (for motorized shades) set up the remote. This guide breaks the process down step by step so you can get a clean, secure installation.

Click the button above for a step-by-step interactive guide.

Before you begin

Take a few minutes to get your space and materials ready. If you prefer to follow along with a printed version, you can download the Quick Start Guide (PDF) to use alongside these steps.

  • Remove any existing window coverings, brackets, or hardware

  • Make sure the window frame surface is clean and dry

  • Remove the rod from the shades. Be careful to avoid the strings as you pull the rod from the shade’s clips.

  • Unpack your installation kit, including the PerfectTrim™ Tool, mounting guides, and wrench

Check your window depth

  • To install your shade inside the window frame, your window needs at least 15/16” of inset depth.

  • If your window is shallower than that, you can still install your shade using an outside mount instead.

Step 1: Install the TrueFit Bar and find your fit number

Overview

This video will give you a quick overview of the steps you'll take in this section:

Detailed steps

A. Position and extend the TrueFit Bar

  • Extend and twist the bar until both ends touch the inside edges of the frame.

  • Note the number shown where the inner and outer rods meet. This is your fit number.

  • Carefully remove the bar from the window frame and twist the bar tightly to your fit number.

B. Install the TrueFit Bar

  • Place the TrueFit Bar back inside your window frame. It should be secure, but nudgeable.

  • Use the included mounting guides on both ends of the TrueFit Bar and nudge the bar into place. The mounting guides ensure you are leaving enough room around the TrueFit Bar for the shades to be installed.

C. Secure the TrueFit Bar

Turn the end cap on the right side of the TrueFit™ Bar to lock the bar into place.

  • Once the shade is positioned where you want it, use the included wrench to tighten and secure the bar.

  • Give the bar a gentle tap to confirm it’s secure. A slight jiggle is normal, but the ends of the bar should stay firmly in place.

Important: If you need to reposition the shade or start over, first twist the end cap fully inward to unlock it. The end cap is designed for locking the bar in place, not extending it.

Step 2: Trim the shade with the PerfectTrim Tool

Overview

This video will give you a quick overview of the steps you'll take in this section:

Detailed steps

A. Make a test cut (highly recommended)

If this is your first time using the PerfectTrim™ Tool, we recommend making a small practice cut using the included test fabric first. It’s a quick way to get familiar with how the tool works before trimming your shade.

For the smoothest cut, apply steady pressure using your body weight.

B. Find your trim amount

  • Align the blade on top of your fit number.

  • For an even straighter cut, you can slide the rail gently against the cutter as you trim.

C. Trim the shade

  • Trim one side of the shade using the PerfectTrim™ Tool at your fit number.

  • Then repeat the same process on the other side of the shade.

Step 3: Install the shade

A. Remove the mounting guides, then Clip on the shade

After removing the mounting guides, gently push the shade onto the TrueFit Bar until fully secure. (The thicker, rounded side is the front.)

B. Slide the rails out

Slide the rails out on both sides of your shade.

Step 4: Pair the remote

A. Pair the remote

  • Remove the remote control’s magnetic back plate and pull tab. The remote will not activate until the pull tab has been removed.

Test the remote

Before Pairing the remote, confirm the remote is working properly.

Press each of the main buttons on the remote:

  • Up button

  • Center button

  • Down button

Important: A blue light should turn on each time a button is pressed. If the blue light does not turn on for one or more of these buttons, DO NOT move forward. Contact [email protected] before continuing with installation.

Pair the remote with your shade

  • Press and hold the Program button (PROG) on the shade motor until the green light blinks twice then remains solid (about 4 seconds).

  • Next, press and hold the Up + Down buttons (at the same time) on the remote until the shade jogs. This means that the remote is now paired with your shade.

B: Set the bottom limit

  • Press and hold the Down button until the shade reaches your desired stopping point.

  • Use the Up and Down buttons to adjust as needed and the shade is fully closed, covering your window completely. You can use the Center Button to stop the motor.

  • Press and hold the Center + Down buttons (at the same time) to set the bottom limit.

Once completed and the bottom limit is recorded, the shade will automatically open completely.

Now test your shade

The Mado remote works much like a garage door opener. Press the Center button once to lower the shade, press it again to stop, and press it once more to raise it back up. The Up and Down buttons are available if you want to move the shade in a specific direction explicitly.

  1. Press the Up button once on the remote to test the shade opening up.

  2. Once fully open, press the Down button on the remote to make sure that it stops once your window is fully covered.

What to expect next

Your shade is now installed and ready to use. You can start using it right away with the included remote to raise and lower the shade or set it exactly where you want it.

The built-in solar strip helps maintain the internal battery during normal daylight, so in most homes you should rarely need to charge it.

If you’d like to do more, you can connect your shade to the Mado Home app. From there, you can control it from your phone, create schedules, and connect it with Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa.

Smart home setup is completely optional. Your shade works great on its own, but the app is there if you want to expand how it fits into your home.
