How to connect your Mado C-Series motorized shades to an eero-powered network with Alexa

Follow these steps to connect your C-Series motorized shade to an eero-powered mesh network and control it using Amazon Alexa. Once connected, you can leverage eero’s built-in Thread Border Router capabilities to manage and automate your shades via Matter

Mado C-Series motorized shades support Matter over Thread, allowing them to communicate reliably with your smart home devices. Rather than connecting directly to Wi-Fi, your shades join a fast, low-power Thread mesh network. A compatible eero router acts as a Thread Border Router, bridging the signal between your shades' Thread network and your home’s Wi-Fi network. After pairing, you can control your shades through the Alexa app, voice commands, and automated routines.

Before you begin

Make sure:

  • your shade is installed and responsive using the physical remote control

  • your phone is connected to your home Wi-Fi network

  • you have the Amazon Alexa app and the eero app installed on your phone

  • you have a compatible eero model configured as your Thread Border Router on the same network (see table of eero models below)

  • you have the Matter setup QR code (typically located on the bottom bar of your shade) ready

Step 1: Enable Thread in your eero app

Before adding your shades, you must ensure your eero network is actively running its Thread mesh network:

  1. Open the eero app on your phone.

  2. Navigate to the Settings tab.

  3. Tap Network Settings.

  4. Locate Thread and toggle it On.

Step 2: Put the shade in pairing mode

  1. Locate the NWK button on the bottom interface of your shade.

  2. Press and release the button once.

  3. The LED indicator will begin blinking purple, confirming the shade is broadcasting its Matter pairing signal.

Note: The shade will remain in pairing mode for 5 minutes. If it stops blinking before you complete setup, press the NWK button again.

Step 3: Open the Alexa app and add your shade

  1. Open the Alexa app on your phone.

  2. Tap Devices.

  3. Tap the + icon in the upper corner and select Add Device.

  4. Scroll down and choose Blind in response to “Which Device…”.

  5. Select Other for the brand when prompted.

  6. Select Matter.

  7. Scan the Matter setup QR code printed on the bottom of your shade. If the scan fails, select the option to enter the numeric code manually.

  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to assign the shade to a room and complete pairing.

Step 4: Test control

Confirm the connection is active by using the Alexa app or your voice:

  • Open and close the shade using the in-app device controls.

  • Test voice commands:

  • “Alexa, open the living room shade.”

  • “Alexa, close the bedroom shade.”

Step 5 (optional): Add your shade to the Mado Home app for Eco-Mode

Connecting your shade to the Mado Home app alongside Alexa allows you to utilize Eco-Mode, which automatically adjusts your shades based on solar intensity and local weather forecasts to reduce HVAC energy costs.

  1. In the Alexa app, select your Mado shade.

  2. Open Device Settings and tap Linked Matter apps & services.

  3. Tap Other Assistants and Apps, then tap Add Another.

  4. Copy the unique numeric pairing code generated on the screen.

  5. Open the Mado Home app.

  6. Tap Add a Shade and select More options when prompted.

  7. Choose your shade from the nearby list and paste the copied numeric pairing code.

  8. Go to the shade settings in the Mado Home app to establish your home location and configure your window orientation to activate Eco-Mode.

If the shade does not appear during setup

Check that:

  • the shade is powered on and responsive to its physical remote control

  • your phone is connected to the primary Wi-Fi network created by your eero system

  • the Matter setup code is entered or scanned correctly

  • the shade is within the recommended Thread range (typically 20 to 40 feet) of your closest compatible eero node

If pairing continues to fail, you can reset the shade's network memory. Press and hold the NWK button on the bottom of the shade until the LED glows solid amber, then release the button and restart the setup process.
